All the gas cartridges are the same size and fit into any of the available slots. Inside each cartridge is a PCB that stores all identifiable information including: gas type, age, and factory calibration. When you plug the new cartridge into
the basestation the information from the PCB is read so the cartridge can be configured and start working immediately.
Each cartridge is calibrated and validated individually in lab against traceable reference standards.
